Help with buying a used skoda superb

    Hello everyone,

I am looking at getting a used Skoda superb 1.9 diesel 2005 Reg with 120k miles on it. i previously have a volvos40.

my question is what should i be looking at for, what are the pitfalls with regards to skoda superb especially the 2005 model.

any other advise will be appreciated - I am hoping you good people on the forum will help out.

    thanks

    ola

It is basically a Passat 3B so one of the biggest areas for spending money is the front suspension. Occasionally those engines can have slight head gasket leaks that only show up on a decnet high speed run and turbo problems are common and often a reason for sale.

It sounds OK but you could do with getting it inspected by a VAG specialist, you could end up with a repair bill of that much even for just two common issues.

The vehicle comes with 6months RAC warranty (for both parts and labour), one year RAC recovery and they will do the timig belt change, plus service and fresh mot

I had a 2005 Superb Elegance Auto untill March of this year when unfortunatley a member of family borrowed it and managed to distroy gearbox. I sold it to a taxi company who got another gearbox and I still see it around. The car had just over 100,000 miles on when sold. Apart from renewing brake components and service items only had a few minor problems ie both front door window winders, shock absorbers and I did change front suspension arms and bushes at around 90,000 miles. If the car you are thinking of buying has a sun roof check to make sure drain holes are clear other wise you might end up witth water in foot wells. The car had a mixture of different types of milage, long journeys of 2000 miles plus as well as towing caravan in UK and Europe. The car was always serviced at specified intervals and when timing belt was changed all tensioners and water pump where changed. Never had any problems with turbo or head gasket. £2000 seems a reasonable price. I bought an Octavia to replace the Superb but wish I bought another Superb. Superb by name and also suberb by quality.
