my octavia has the old type timing chain tentioner at 90k
just changed the oil on my vrs tsi octavia and took the bung out to check the tc tentioner , found it to be the old type ,,,,dam!!!
what sort of price am i looking at for the parts to do this job for the revised type , my vw mechanic wants £200 labour whatever
i may need a new side cover will i as ive heard it bends , has anyone done one without changing this cover , might change the chain aswell if its cheap but not holding my breath

At £200 for the labour I hope he has low overheads and can borrow the locking tools...

the thing is the 2009 car is now on 90k and the tentioner looks fine , hardly extended so might not bother , if it goes it goes the car is a cat n writeoff anyway and cost me 2395 , 20180728_133905.jpg

I do find this modern disposable car attitude a bit depressing, when I started driving a nine or even nineteen year old car was worth saving after a big failure, but then again they were MUCH simpler and easier to repair and the parts more affordable, and you didn't need a computer!

It's booked in now at Sheffields vw specialist .
