    Amundsen Satnav

I have a 2012 Rapid and have been informed by Bristol Street Motors, my local Skoda dealer that they cannot update my Amundsen satnav! Is this because they are not capable or it cannot be done? Had some strange experiences with it recently!

They should be able to update it unless there is something wrong with it

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

2012 Rapid has the Amundsen + unit, with a single sd card slot to the left of the screen. You'll need a new sd card which is single use (tied to your head unit once installed and can't be used in another vehicle) and obviously not a second hand one. This then updates the units maps by overwritibng the original maps with a new version. Your dealer may or may not be an idiot. They can sell you a new version of maps on an sd card, but they may not want to (more on this later), but they can't actually update it for you without selling you the actual card first which is a waste of time as all you'd do is insert the card anyway.

Anyway, latest maps are V11 which came out not too long ago, V10 was prior to that, and (you see where this is going) V9 before that. The last stable maps version is V9. If you update to V10 or V11 you run the risk of making your unit unstable (software bug in the mapping files) so it may be that the dealer has had issues with selling updated maps cards and now doesn't want to risk causing problems. No matter, simply buy a V9 card and you'll be okay.

This all depends of course on what maps version you actually have on there at the moment. If you already have V9 then don't bother any further.
