Skoda Superb 3 water temperature fault

I have a 2017 Superb 2.0 TDI with a water temperature fault just 7 days out of warranty ! has anyone else experienced a temperature fault, car is booked into a Skoda garage next week who say they will run the diagnostics but it sounds as though it will need a new water pump as there is an electronic valve built into it and it may all need replacing.

The water temperature gauge will reach 90 after around 15 minutes from cold, then occasionally, not always, will start to move up a little, then will gently carry on to around 120, then start to go back down again to 90 and then stay at 90, only ever happened once per journey... and not every journey, so its an intermittent fault

I haven't seen any of these electrically controlled pumps fail yet but we have replaced quite a lot now when doing the cam belt, we only use genuine VAG. The gauge behaviour is worrying as I know from monitoring that if the gauge reads 120 it is higher as I have seen the gauge read 90 when the diagnostic display shows 117...
